We are looking to recruit a group of movie reviewers for a new movie review site - CoolFilmz.com (http://www.Coolfilmz.com) launched not even a month ago. Don’t’ care what your background is, long as you can fit our style and the bill below.
Movie reviews on CFz will be edgy, irreverent and deal with so-called "cool films." We will not review cutesy, romantic or artsy films.... Some exceptions if they are unusually good flicks. We do like cool classic films too though – so if you are an expert on Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, we can dig that.
COMPENSATION Primarily, this is a start-up site and an opportunity to gain exposure for your writing. However, you get a byline. Plus and free tutorials on how to work within a content management system.
OTHER This position could gravitate toward a steady paying gig if the site turns a profit and we can afford it. The terms of compensation are subject to change.
-Authors retain all rights to their work minus a one-time right for CoolFilmz to keep anything written for and displayed on CoolFilmz in our archives. We won’t resale it – don’t worry – unless we sell the entire damn site and your review is part of the archive.
(The idea is when you become the next Roger Ebert; we will have some work to prove you wrote for us).
-Expectations are at least 2 movie reviews a month - 500 - 1000 words; Willingness to produce (approx. 1 essay per 10 reviews) to general essays on film industry, to fill out other areas of site. Ad revenue generated on these pages will go to support hosting costs. Hopefully, this will encourage you to do more.
-Movies of prime interest would be The Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Casablanca, and The Hustler. See the site to get a feel for our style. However, your style can be unique – just edgy, irreverent, etc.
-Must be willing to have a drink with the Editor on some occasions. We are writers after all.
-Author will be expected to write his or her own bio and provide a "cool picture" head shot or something, to put on the contact page. It helps if you are good looking, but if you are ugly, then join the gang (God loves us the most anyway – why made so many of us).
TO APPLY: Send us a movie review of 500 - 1000 words - preferably something not on the site, to
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
. We will not use the movie review, unless we hire you for this job.
Also, include a brief paragraph of why you like movies and what you look for in a cool movie, etc. This could end up being your bio.
One final note: This is more of an opportunity to highlight your talent and get in on the ground level of a site, which we hope rockets to fame. It might take some time, so don't quit your day job just yet. Still, despite all that – we are fussy. We want good talented writers with a unique voice.
