I know it is has been a while since I last updated Unspooled - a freaking awesome movie blog if there ever was one. Hey, better later than never. I will not apologize because tough guys don't do that. Am I saying I am a tough guy? I am only saying that in my efforts to emulate the coolest people on the silver screen, I should not apologize. Cool Dudes are merely understood; they never explain.
The point of today's post is really about Netflix? How long must I stubbornly look at a film that has been checked out and sitting on my desk now for six months? Yes, here and there, I do the instant To TV thing, and the wife likes the occasional documentary, but really, with RedBox, On Occasional Demand Comcast, and discount DVD bins, where does Netflix ultimately fit in?
I feel like a complete asshole for holding onto movies for months while I am racking up fees? I should have but the damn disc long ago. Still, there is something about not watching the damn movie and mailing it back that seems worse than just letting it collect dust and rack up fees. After all, if I do watch it, then on some level I will have completed the task at hand of watching the damn movie for which I was charged. To mail it back not having watched it seems to admit personal failure of some kind.
Surely there is a shrink out there than can explain this behavior. I don't have it with RedBox. RedBox is sort of like my movie prostitute. If I happen to be down on the block, it takes my money and only charges me if go over my rental period. Hmm. Netflix is like a girl friend you can't get rid of. You get used to the movie sitting there collecting dust, looking at you like you are the biggest asshole in the world. Guess what? You probably are.
